My two youngest children often change settings on my computer. Just now as I typed the words, “Go Tell It!” these three words showed up on my screen like this -
Go Tell It!
I chuckled as I saw God as the definite sender of this large message. “Yes, Lord!” I said, as I went looking for the source of the giant letters. The font size was correctly set at 12. Aha! There it was - 500% zoom!
Often we want to share the Good News of God with others. Often we are not quite sure how to go about it. We may think we’re not called or qualified. Maybe we won’t know the answers to the follow-up questions others may ask us. What if they shut us down or make fun of us? We certainly don’t want to meddle in other people’s lives. They seem happy enough, don’t they? Click to continue →

Are you here now? Are you moving forward, ears perked for the sound, eyes peeled for the hands? Are you here? Are you stretched to your limit, flying toward a place you do not know and currently cannot see - flying in complete and utter trust in God, your Catcher? Are you here now? Are you somewhere after the exhilaration of the bold release, but before the safety of the catch?
This is a good time to find some company - and we know the perfect place!
If my life was exhibit A in a trial to decide if I am a Christ follower, would there be enough evidence to convict me?
I want to be guilty - criminally compassionate, bad to the bone benevolent, recklessly righteous, grievously gracious and foolishly forgiving! I want to be guilty of speaking the words Jesus spoke, living like Jesus lived and loving like Jesus loves.
Thursday was back-to-school day for Daniel and Maya. It was not the smoothest morning, and my husband was not optimistic that I was going to get my first day of school photo that I have taken every year for eighteen years. I was determined to get that picture, no matter if the socks didn’t feel quite right, and the other shoes with the holes in them kick much better and why were the backpacks so heavy. And then there was the comment I couldn’t quite make out, the shoulder punch response and the requisite goofy faces aimed at the camera. I was determined to get my beautiful first day of school photo. Click to continue →

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
You are, at this very moment, blessed. You may say to me, “Blessed? Oh, then you have no idea what I am going through right now! I feel about as far away from ‘blessed’ as a person can be!” God’s response is not only, “Yes, you are blessed!” but, “Then yes, you are blessed!”
Line up everything that you feel is wrong with your life. Make a list of each quality you possess that the world distains. Write up every struggle and trial, each sorrow and every loss. In God’s kingdom, you can check them off one by one - blessed, blessed, blessed.
The kingdom of God is all around us, but never forced upon us. God sets His kingdom before us and invites us to step on in -
…Come! Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. Revelation 22:17
The world saturates us with its definition of “well-off”. Here is a very different message from Jesus - an elevated teaching delivered from a mountain. Click to continue →
I was watching TV with a friend when a commercial for the latest in reality shows came on. The subject matter was hoarders, people whose homes and lives are buried in piles and stacks and heaps of various things. I can barely look at the commercial and I told my friend that I could never watch that show. She told me that she knows a woman who watches the series for the sole purpose of feeling better about her messy house!
I laughed, but in my heart I knew that I can be guilty of this same sort of judgmental offense. Jesus knows how easy it is to get caught up in this comparison game.
God often speaks to me through my children. The messages are timeless and God knows I will remember them years down the line. This morning I am recalling one such moment.
Our daughter, Maya, was seven years old at the time. Maya was eating breakfast, when she abruptly looked up from her plate, turned to her father and simply asked, “Daddy, can we put those bee suits on and go get some real honey from the bees?” She asked the question as if the suits were waiting for us in the closet and the bees were busy making honey out in our backyard!
Singin’: Don’t worry about a thing, ’cause ev-ry little thing gonna be all right.
Sayin’: Don’t worry about a thing, ’cause ev-ry little thing gonna be all right!” Bob Marley
Bob of Jamaica sang it in 1977, but this message was brought to me and you-ou-ou by Jesus of Nazareth in A.D. 31!
The divorce is final! There is nothing that can be done to reverse it. We just could no longer see eye to eye, the world and me. Oh, I remember the early days of our romance - the promises, new possessions, adventures to embark upon, comfort and pleasures to know. World, you were my oyster and it was so easy to look to you for happiness.
And at first, I must say, you delivered - status, wealth, material gifts, a circle of like-minded friends. What more could I want? The world is so generous!, I remember thinking. I can have it all! But very soon, I found that you were only kind to me in spurts and that you failed me at my most critical junctures. We all have our faults, I reasoned, but your tiny fissures grew into deep crevasses, many times over swallowing me alive. It made me wonder, Does the world really love me?
